From an Intern to the CEO, Journey of a Unicorn Potential Startup Founder

The startup world is a lucrative dimension for every ambitious person in India, but it does NOT accept and reward every aspiring entrepreneur with the same enthusiasm. In recent years India has emerged as the biggest “Startup-Hub” around the globe. With lots of ideas and passion top solutions to the problems being faced by people, India has seen some remarkables and individuals who have brought digital transformation to the Indian market. One such inspiring journey is of Mr. Rohit Verma an inspiring entrepreneur who aspires to unify and connect the complete Indian marketplace with his startup. His journey from being an intern to being the CEO of a unicorn potential startup is truly inspiring for the youth of India.

Born and brought up in a Marwari Business Family in Indore, Rohit had a privileged childhood as his family had a successful construction business led by his Lt. Grandfather. From the very beginning, he had a keen interest in understanding the world of business and joining the corporate ladder in the UK. So, to pursue his desire to work abroad, he decided to drop out of collegeand prepare for I.E.L.T.S. He was all sorted to pursue his career in the UK but some last moment changes led him to withdraw his plans, making him a college dropout with no work experience and no future plans. This phase was rock bottom for him as he could not fathom what he should do further, leaving him in despair and hopelessness for months.

Rohit soon realized that he can’t stay like this forever and decided to pull himself out of this phase. So, after months of despair, he appeared for an interview and luckily got an internship in a mobile app development company. It was his life’s first and last interview and a life-changing

turn for him. He was flabbergasted in this world of tech and innovation, from losing himself in hopelessness to losing himself in the world of ideas, startups, innovation, and technology his life took a new turn.

There he tried learning everything where he could get his hands on. Starting from doing Google

search, data entry as an intern to managing the complete project as the Business Development

Manager, he worked and got experience in every job role in the company. During his corporate

tenure, he worked with more than 500 startups of multifarious industries and from different parts

of the world.

Rohit describes his days in the corporate world as the days that built him and enabled him in

doing and discovering the best he could ever possibly do.

Working with international startups in his internship and corporate tenure gave him a lot of

knowledge and experience of the business world and why other countries were ahead of India

in the digital domain, laying down the foundations for him to change the course of the Indian

Marketplace commerce model in India.

While working he realized where India lacked as a digital community and what problems he

could solve with the help of technology. And, that realization was the beginning of his

entrepreneurial journey.

Finally, with the visionary goal to make India a "Digitally Advanced Community", he started

working on the idea of building a suite of solutions focusing on that particular segment which

comprises the major contributors of the nation’s growth - The Indian Market.

In his own words, Rohit revealed that the idea was simple, it was to follow the 80/20 rule,

targeting that 20% of the Indian market which will bring the 80% transformation in making India

a digitally advanced nation.

A survey conducted by the Facebook group revealed that there are more than 42.50 million

SMBs in the market and only 1.5 million are using online marketing and advertising tools. And

there are 330 million Indians using social media platforms, relying on foreign platforms to

explore the marketplace and the offers. So, to solve this problem Rohit came up with the idea of

making Byloapp India an exclusive platform for the millennials and GenZ community of

customers and merchants. Since this community is the future of India and the early change

acceptors as compared to their previous generations. With this community, Byloapp India is

redefining e-commerce brought by foreign companies in India to iCommerce - The Indian

Commerce way.

According to Rohit, the advent of technology in Indian commerce is unprecedented but Indians

are dynamic and need an Indian way to enhance their shopping experience. And that’s where

Byloapp India comes as their savior with its iCommerce business model which works to promote

the Indian behavior of commerce i.e, SOSO which stands for Search Online Shop Offline.

The iCommerce (Indian Commerce) model has seen a lot of appreciation from the merchant

and customer community. It is a commission-free platform and helps them in discovering each

other’s presence in the marketplace. Rohit successfully managed to bring the Millennials & Gen

Z community of merchants and customers under a single roof. This became particularly useful

during the pandemic. During the lockdown, the merchants took the hit with shops being shut

down. In such times of despair, anxiety, and hopelessness Byloapp proved to be their savior.

With its online mode of marketing, Byloapp played an important role in bridging the gap between

the merchants and the customers.

To honor and recognize the real celebrities of the Indian Marketplace Byloapp India has

organized city-specific hyperlocal business awards, and is planning to host a talk show and

digital magazine. The initiative has seen an overwhelming response from the merchant

community.

Currently, Byloapp India has successfully covered 41 Cities, 8 States, and 14k+ businesses of

India. And that too in a time span of 2 years that saw the nation’s two major lockdowns. Steering

its way through the hurdles in its way, this startup seems unstoppable in its mission of making

India a digitally advanced community.

As the CEO of this unicorn potential startup, Rohit wants to change the perspective of the youth

of India and encourage them to idolize and get influenced by real-life change-makers like

entrepreneurs and founders rather than reel-life celebrities. Rohit is trying to do that too with his

platform by acknowledging the local businesses as the supporting pillars of the local economy.

From the rock bottom to the top, Rohit’s journey is a truly inspiring story for the youth and every

budding entrepreneur of India. Proving that life is a lot like running a Startup, you need to

bootstrap yourself, innovate, and keep moving even when the winds are not in your favor.

*ADIF aims to transform the Indian startup ecosystem to be among the top 3 globally by the year 2030*

✔ Committed to building an alliance of individuals and organisations that are vested in the success and growth of the startup ecosystem.

✔ ADIF aims to be the voice of Indian startups and represent their views before the government and industry forums

New Delhi, 21 July 2021: ADIF (Alliance of Digital India Foundation), a think tank for India’s digital startups, today shared its plans to meet its objective of the long-term prosperity of the Indian startup ecosystem. While India is the 3rd largest startup ecosystem in the world, it ranks only 20th in the global start-up ranking. ADIF aims to transform the Indian startup ecosystem to be among the top 3 globally by the year 2030. In the process, ADIF will also be evangelising the Indus Valley playbook as an alternative ideology to the Silicon Valley playbook.

At its core, ADIF wants to build an alliance of individuals and organisations, all of whom are driven towards making India the best startup nation globally. We aim to achieve this goal through championing the sector, celebrating our wealth creators, increasing trust within the players, evangelising the Indus Valley playbook, facilitating market development, driving collaboration in the ecosystem and representing the voice of the startup sector with the government and industry forums.

Speaking on the mission and vision of the foundation, Mr. Sijo, Executive Director – Alliance of Digital India Foundation (ADIF) said, “There are over 50 unicorns in India today – a number that was unimaginable 10 years ago. We are currently the third-largest ecosystem in the world, and with that, we have truly arrived on the global stage. Now that we are here, we have a genuine opportunity at pursuing the journey of being the best in the world. Our mission is to transform the Indian startup ecosystem to be among the top 3 globally by the year 2030.”

He also added, “Traditionally, we have had access to Silicon Valley literature, but the way Indian founders have driven their startups has been based on a very different playbook – this literature is more suited to the Indian or any emerging startup ecosystem. We as a country have created a lot of knowledge among ourselves on how to look at an alternate model of entrepreneurship and wealth creation. At ADIF, we will compile this knowledge and take it to our young entrepreneurs and help fuel the next wave of entrepreneurs. Furthermore, our ecosystem is still very nascent, so it’s understandable that the policies haven’t fully caught up. ADIF will thus also focus on advocating for favourable policies, figuring out solutions that are in the best interest of everyone and driving them.”

ADIF plans to adopt a three-pronged approach to transform the Indian startup ecosystem: Building an Alliance of Founders and Startups, Club ADIF and Policy Lab. These three pillars will form the backbone of ADIF’s mission to forge a joint roadmap for a strong vibrant Digital India. As part of the alliance, ADIF will bring together all individuals and organisations that are vested in the success and growth of India’s startup ecosystem.

Club ADIF is a collaborative trust layer that enables sharing of knowledge and best practices at an informal peer to peer level. Policy Lab is to ideate and advocate for favourable policies for the sector and to ensure their adequate representation in front of the government and industry bodies.

A Section 8 non-profit organisation, ADIF was founded by the likes of Sairee Chahal of Sheroes, Murugavel Janakiraman of Matrimony.com and Ritesh Malik of Innov8. ADIF is committed to inspiring India’s youth to consider technology entrepreneurship to create jobs and wealth in our society, thereby promoting entrepreneurship across the nation.

Central India's First Startup To Provide Menstrual Leave To The Female Employees

Indore, July 2021: Unlike men, women have to go through a cycle of biologically- driven pain that causes great discomfort at work. Most of the time, women have to disguise their menstrual-related leave as "sick leave". Menstrual Leave given at a workplace can give all the women employees psychological peace and comfort so that they can feel safe during these times and stay at home to rest. Moreover, acknowledging "Period leave" as a need outside of sick leave warrants is directly being addressed at the workplace.

Since the very beginning, Byloapp has been taking steps to redefine the workplace environment. And after intensively thinking upon moves to level up the productivity and wellness of the workforce, it brought up measures to ease up the problems faced by the female employees. With its initiative to provide 12 days of paid menstrual leave to all female employees, the startup has made a significant move in making the company a more empathetic workplace.

Menstruation and periods are something that women are still not so comfortable talking about, the topic is a bit stigmatized and women still feel uncomfortable in discussing problems related to it. An initiative like period leaves is much more than just leave from work. It is a statement that the organization is open to address such issues and there is no need for women to feel

ashamed about menstruation and talking about it.

The startup has become India’s 1st Hyperlocal Marketplace Search Engine and Central India’s 1st Startup to provide menstrual leave to female employees of the company. Being a startup Byloapp is fulfilling its responsibility of bringing change and providing real-time solutions to the problems in society.

According to Rohit Verma, the Founder, and CEO of Byloapp, “Menstruation is still considered to be an awkward subject. We feel that workplaces should be reshaped to acknowledge the needs of our female employees. The pain is a reaction to natural causes and one should not feel embarrassed or disgraced to discuss it. By taking the condition of women's menstrual health into account, we are very happy that we were among the first to initiate such measures for the intact veiled problem”.

He further adds, “We were ready for all kinds of responses that we would be getting when we initiated this policy, and I was very happy when everyone at our premises accepted this initiative positively. It has greatly enhanced the productivity of our female employees and their wellness. Also, it has made our workplace more open, collaborative, and supportive. We hope that our initiative inspires others too.”

Meenal Ramteke, an employee of the Byloapp expressing her joy with this move, says, “Because menstruation is still a taboo subject, I'm fortunate to work for a company that understands the need of taking a break when you're not feeling your best. My work productivity has improved significantly as I can take leave or work from home as per my own choice during periods."

Apoorva Singh, another employee of Byloapp says that "As a woman employee, I could not have been more elated! Menstruation is still a taboo topic, and Byloapp's one leave a month is not just a step towards a social change, but also can be a stepping stone for the entire young start-up and corporate industry collectively. And I am grateful that I am working in a company that has been a pioneer in taking this initiative"

This initiative has seen mixed responses throughout India, and many have opposed this initiative too. But its impact has been positive on the productivity and wellness of the female employees. Moreover, it has propelled more awareness about the topic in the workspace as well as in the corporate culture. Women feel more comfortable in talking about the issues they face among their colleagues and with the management. Also, in recent years a significant drop in the total female workforce is being observed. This is a matter of concern for the corporate world as well as the whole nation. To bring a change in this trend more steps like this are needed that encourage women to participate equally and make them feel comfortable and safe.

The virtual session was graced by distinguished and esteemed guests which included Chief Guest, Dr Saurabh Garg, IAS Chief Executive Officer, UIDAI and Keynote Speaker, Mr Lalit Gupta, Co-founder, Edduus, Leadership Coach and ZIIL Malaysia. The induction programme also witnessed a welcome address by Prof Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur. The program began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by an address by Prof. Poonam Kumar, Chairperson Admissions. The MBA Program was introduced to the other faculty members, staff, students and media by Prof. Merlin Nandy, Chairperson, PGP. The 7th MBA batch with its strength of 169 students is a vibrant combination of gender and academic diversity.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur, said, “The Vision of IIM Sambalpur is to “Nurture Responsible Leaders with Entrepreneurial Mind Set”, and we operate around our 3 Core Values: INNOVATION, INCLUSIVENESS & INTEGRITY. The ecosystem we have created based on the 3I's of Innovation, Inclusiveness and Integrity has been instrumental in creating a difference. As an evidence to our Inclusiveness Value propositions, we became the first IIM in 2019 MBA admission with highest gender inclusive diversity of 49% female students in MBA, 44% in 2020 and 48% female in 2021. As an outcome of this, every other IIM has started following our inclusive policy and now we are happy to see that this has become the trend in all other Institutes. Another evidence of our Inclusiveness value propositions is that we have signed MOUs with MSME, GOI and India SME Forum to develop small businesses and start-ups in smaller towns to make business more inclusive and not confined to big companies in big towns. This year we have 48% girls in a batch of 169 students in MBA 2021-23 from more than 22 different states in India. 67% of the candidates are from Engineering background and 65% of students have prior working experience.”

Our unique proposition is to nurture large number of start-ups and entrepreneurs across the country. hence, we would encourage our young MBA students all those who are a part of the institute to align themselves with our Vision and participate in executing the same. We desire for you all to acquire skills and capabilities to create wealth for the organisation and for yourself. Addressing the new batch, Keynote Speaker, Mr Lalit Gupta, Co-founder, Edduus, Leadership Coach and ZIIL Malaysia, stated, “We are living in an era of entrepreneurs and leaders. Studying at an IIM, you are sure to have a successful career, whether you join a multinational company or start a venture of your own. There is a huge amount of disruption happening around us and COVID has only accelerated those changes. Technology makes things more efficient. Today we are all connected with each other, and these uber-technologies are disrupting traditional business models faster than ever before. These changes are revolutionary. Leaders have high level of emotional integrity that is about being brutally honest in knowing what exactly they want for themselves. While this is an era of uncertainties, it is at the same time an era of opportunities and possibilities. We have to figure out how to take advantage of these opportunities and possibilities and not get bogged down by the challenges. This is what will create the difference between living and leading. You are at the right IIM to be able to excel at that because the focus on entrepreneurship at IIM Sambalpur is exemplary.”

Chief Guest, Dr Saurabh Garg, IAS Chief Executive Officer, UIDAI, commented, “Companies that existed 100 years ago, don’t exist anymore and this is normal. People can make educated guesses on what the future holds but they remain guesses and that is the exciting thing about the future knowing that there will be changes which one could have never imagined a few years back. Keeping in mind that change is the only constant, the one advice that I can give these students is that figuring out the gaps that is there in your education. Every interaction you have with another human being, is a course in communication. Performance of a leader also depends on teamwork so do learn how to work in groups and teams. Life is a marathon, and you will not have victory at every point. I am sure you are all looking forward to the next two years, but I would suggest you do think about your alma matter once you go out as well.”

The 5-day Induction program will be addressed by a host of eminent and notable leaders from the industry and the Government. The guests who will honour the induction week include Shri Aishwarya Pratap Singh, Head of Marketing, ITC Limited; Shri Keshav Rao Director, Personnel, MCL; Shri Dilip Ranjan Sahoo, Head HR, Vedanta; Shri Krishna Padhee, Head HR, Hindalco; Ms. Harshita Agarwal, VP, Royal Bank of Scotland; Prof. M R Dixit, IIM Ahmedabad; Ms. Sucheta Mahapatra, Member BoG Managing Director, Branch International; Mr. Arvind Padhi, IAS Director, Country Relations, ICRISAT; Prof. Sabyasachi Sinha; Mr. Ashish Garg, Member BoG, BCG; Film Maker, Mr. Neel Madav Panda.

This is in line with Capital India's vision to enable digital financial products and services to Indian customers. With this investment Credenc is looking to build a book of INR 3000 Cr by 2025.

Shri SK Narvar, promoter of Capital India, opines that “The annual spend on college fees in India is around US $50 billion or INR 3.5+ lakh crore, of which only 5% is financed by organised lenders. With Credenc, CIFL intends to change the segment perception and reduce underwriting risk basis Credenc’s future employability score, which will help this percentage go up to at least 15%, aiming to lend 3000 crores by 2025. Also, the founders will continue to run operations for Credenc as we would not want to disrupt the working of the organisation and believe they know the business best.”

*40% COVID-recovered Patients are having Post-COVID Symptoms, AIG Survey finds*

 • AIG Hospitals Launches India’s First Dedicated Post-COVID Care Clinic

Hyderabad, 19 July 2021: In India, as we clocked over 3 crore COVID recoveries, the incidence of Post-COVID symptoms is noticeably increasing across the country. AIG Hospitals – one of the country’s largest super specialty Hospitals, recently carried out a PAN India online survey to understand the true picture of such Post-COVID illnesses. The most important result was that over 40% of COVID recovered patients said that they are still having symptoms, out of which weakness/fatigue was reported the maximum. Many patients also reported newer symptoms like Insomnia, Neuropsychiatric issues among others.

“We were seeing many such Post-COVID patients in our hospital, but this survey gave us the true picture of this Post-COVID Syndrome. If this is an indication to go by then we are looking at over 1 crore people in India who have recovered from COVID-19 but are still having certain symptoms,” said Dr. D Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman, AIG Hospitals.

Dr. Reddy further added that “We also asked in our survey about the usage of steroids in these patients during their COVID-19 treatment and found out that 74% hospitalized patients received steroids but 34% required oxygen. We believe there is some correlation between irrational use of steroids and Post COVID complications because as per the guidelines we are supposed to give steroids in COVID patients only to those who require Oxygen. Further research will be required to ascertain the steroids.”

Present during the occasion, Chief Guest, Shri Narsing Rao, Principal Secretary to the CM of Telangana said, “It is a growing challenge and needs to be addressed immediately from all relevant stakeholders. We are keeping a close eye on this situation as it unfolds. It is commendable on part of AIG Hospitals to come up with such an initiative, a first-of-its-kind dedicated Post-COVID Care Clinic so early and showing the way ahead in managing these Post-COVID cases. It will be important to see what newer protocols will be required for these patients and it is our cumulative responsibility to help in this regard.”

Looking at the urgent need to address this pertinent issue of Post-COVID complications, AIG Hospitals today announced the launch of India’s first dedicated Post-COVID Care Clinic. The clinic will comprise of a multidisciplinary team with experts from Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Psychiatry, Orthopedics, among others providing comprehensive care. The objective is to evaluate and manage these patients from a holistic point of view.

The finding of the AIG COVID Survey is now being published as a research report currently available as a pre-print.

“I don't watch previous matches but we see that what they are currently doing and what they are preparing for”:PV Sindhu

In an exclusive interview with CNN-News18, Olympian medallist PV Sindhutalked about her preparation for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. She shared her experiences, her preparation and how it has changed amidst the Covid-19 outbreak.

Sindhu: At the moment I am enjoying the pressure because I can't say that I don't have pressure, because of a lot of expectation and responsibility I think it's very important to just play your game and give your best rather than think what people want you to do because that will and extra pressure according to me and having that pressure and going to the court is not good. So I think it's better to just focus on your game and give your best.

Q: True, your bags are all packed. So what are the few things that you are going to pack for yourself so that you do well in Tokyo?

Sindhu: Lots of sanitizer and face mask. It's very important to stay safe and make sure that you follow all the Covid protocols because even though Japanese government is doing everything and the protocols are being followed, it's very important to stay safe. Weaving in the bio bubble and everybody will be tested every day and it's going to be very different and I think so The Mask and sanitizer becomes very important. Apart from that I am really looking forward.

Q: You are going to be the flag bearer. Is there a special honour? And that also increase the weight of expectation?

Sindhu: Well there are expectations but being the flag bearer, it's definitely a proud moment and holding the flag and representing your country, it's a proud movement for me. I am really happy for that and I am looking forward because not everybody gets that chance and me getting that chance and opportunity I think it's really a great moment.

Q: How has this been different this time? Because of the pandemic a lot of things have happened, few of your colleagues didn't get qualify, the contingent only 4, it's a very small contingent. But there are the Chinese, Japanese, and Thai. So how it’s been different this time?

Sindhu: Yes it's very different, look at 2016 - it was different, and this time it's going to be completely different, we won't be having spectators around and we can't go anywhere and we have to stay in the bio bubble. I think this pandemic has taught a lot of things and I am getting used to it. For some of the players it's getting difficult also. I think it's not just for us but it's for everybody out there. Unfortunately the tournament is getting cancelled and getting postponed. It's not in our hands. We are in such a situation where you don't know what is next or what is going to happen. At this point the only thing that we can do is to stay safe. If the performance is getting cancelled we can't blame them also. Because you don't know how the situation is in their own country. Everybody wants to make sure that safety comes first. We don't want that situation to go in some other country and get infected from Covid there and staying there for a very long time. I think that's not a good idea. I think they have decided about it and have cancelled the tournament. Since they haven't got selected so we can't blame them also. It's going to be the first Olympic for Sai, Satvik and Chirag, and they are quite excited because everybody is theme is to be there at the Olympics and I think if anybody get that chance they are going to enjoy it. So it's going to be different. But, I think they will learn new stuff.

Q: I am amazed that you are still so young yet still so much older. You are going to be the senior.

Sindhu: For me, it's my second Olympics so I know how the environment is going to be there and I know it's a really good environment you see a lot of athletes on top of their games and it becomes inspiration for you that yeah you are one of them. So, it is good and it's something special. Olympic has always been special for me.

Q: Let's talk about three things the mental level the physical level and the skills. Let's talk each one by one. Mentally you seem to be in a much better place than you were earlier. Now have you been working on that aspect because last time we spoke about mental awareness? Is it something that you been focusing on?

Sindhu: I've been working on that. And I am making sure that I don't go in that state because for a lot of people they don't know what to do when they go in that state. Getting mentally upset, depressed not only in just sports life but also in personal life as well. So it's very important to keep yourself busy by doing something else rather than thinking too much about what's happening. It's important to understand the fact that nobody can do anything about it. Obviously take care of yourself and stay safe. Apart from that it's very important to keep yourself busy by doing something else and don't think a lot about what happening, just a positive all the time. You can do that by doing some exercise or by learning some new skill, that is what I meant by keeping yourself busy you get so busy that you don't have time to think. Keep yourself in that zone and no that you have to stay positive. I know at times is there in life or in sports where you lose a match and things are not going your way so you get upset and begin to get depressed you need to try and come out from that place. You just have to think about what is next and keep going because that's how life is. Because I think positive and staying happy is very much needed. I am sure things will definitely change

Q: Now that you know that you are mentally strong, have you ever tried testing it out but how you perform in critical situation?

Sindhu: I have learnt a lot of things because it comes with a lot of experience to understand what's going in your head, and I make sure that I keep myself calm. Back then when I used to play a match and if I tend to lose it, then I get upset and you can see that on my face. Now that has changed I keep working on that. It's very important to work on your mental aspect. Overall I have improved and it's really good and I stay positive all the time. There are times when you have so many thoughts in your mind or it's just a bad day for you, it's just fine it's ok. It happens, it's not going to be forever.

Q: You may be going through a lot of emotions something really opposite to what is being interpreted. But you have to be in control.

Sindhu: Yes, you have to be the one who have to control yourself.

Q: Now let's talk about your physical aspect, in terms of becoming stronger. What are the aspects that you worked upon? In the run up to a lot of games, now that it's not happening but has that also help that you are now injury free. Get stronger on your training aspect. What have you been doing?

Sindhu: I think this was the time I got enough time to work on my skills and to train because generally we don't have much time because we come from a tournament and then go back to the another tournament back then we didn't have enough time as we were so busy. Now we have a lot of time since March we don't have any tournament still now. Injury wise endurance wise or skill wise I've been working on every aspect of it. When you are competing at the Olympics you have to be in your best form. This was the right time, I've got enough time to train. Enough practice sessions to learn new skills. I'm very happy that we got enough time. A lot of people say that we miss tournament that we couldn't play and do match practice. When you play the matches in big stadiums, you get used to of it. You get to use to of the spectators. But this time around we are playing the matches without spectators at a big stadium. So I am getting used to it so that I don't take much time after going there to actually know how it is.

Q: It's going to be a test of endurance and skills, have you been working on that? Because this strength of all your up opponents are different. As the nationality change the skills and strengths changes.

Sindhu: I've been working on my endurance when we talk about other players yes they are really strong. Skill wise when things comes we have to be prepared for it. So I am working on skills and techniques and I am getting help in that too.

Q: Have you been watching what others are doing? Who are the players of whom you are going to be watch out for?

Sindhu: I don't watch previous matches but we see that what they are currently doing and what they are preparing for. But from March until now we don't have any tournaments so that everyone can learn new techniques and improve their games. But it's very important to be prepared for everything and to have plan A and plan B. You go by one plan and if that doesn't work so you can immediately change your plan that is very important.

Q: Who do you think is someone who has always tested your ability?

Sindhu: It's very different for every player and we have to be prepared for everyone. Like Rachenoff is a very skilful player. For each player its different and you have to be prepared for everyone you should have a different strategy for everyone in the same game.

Q: Is the virus going to play, is the pandemic is going on in the worry of catching the virus or are you going to set that aside and say I'm not going to bother about it?

Sindhu: Of course you have to be careful because we are travelling, make sure that we wear a mask. But I think we should not worry about that because they are protocol and things are being taken care of and we Being In a bio bubble we will make sure that we maintain that social distancing and when we get to the quote I think that should worry us. It's important to be focused and just play our game. I think that's what I'll be more worried about.

Q: Do you think this time the bus around Olympics is not that much. Do you think it's a good thing or a bad thing?

Sindhu: I don't have that feeling because I have already been hearing about that a lot so I feel that the buzz is there but since it got postponed and now that is finally happening I am very much excited about it because it's just couple of week. Apart from that what to be prepared for that there will be no spectators. Surely we are going to miss that buzz, that noise and that crowd. But personally I think there will be a lot of supporters. Apart from that I think the Olympics is there and the buzz is there.

Q: since there will be no spectators, do players actually feel of the crowd energy, does that actually make a difference. In Japan, while playing against the Japanese players, you will rather have an empty Stadium than a crowded one.

Sindhu: now, we've got used to of it. For Yamaha Gucci and ukuhara it's their home ground but when it's Olympics they will also be pressure on them also. I don't know if they are going to be spectators or minimum spectators, at the end of the day it's you and your coach only, I think you two should support each other, playing K9 in empty stadium of course we miss the audience. When you hear the crowd that's like a motivation and support this cheer for you all the time. This time we're not going to have that. So I don't think the crowd matters.

Q: What does kopi Anna say? You been working closely with them. Is there any word of advice that come from him?

Sindhu: Not really because every morning we just come and train. And we have been training for almost one and half years now. So I am just training with him.

Q: What was his assessment of you one year ago, and what are the things that he said that Sindhu you need to work?

Sindhu: He said I need to be a bit consistent and focus on my game a little more and what he meant is that being consistent is very important. And I am working on that too.

Q: What is it that we should watch out for from Sindhu this time around?

Sindhu: I hope that people see a new skill from me and hoping to get that medal back to the country. I think that's what you should hope from me.

*Water Infrastructure players appeal to the Government for inclusion of Drinking Water and Waste Water Projects under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS)*

Funds dry up as money lending institutions deny ECLGS funding to Water Infrastructure players

New Delhi, 15 July, 2021: Water Alliance India, Ion Exchange Limited, Swach Environment Private Limited, Nangloi Water Services Private Limited, industry associations and other companies dealing with water management services have appealed to the Government of India to include water and waste water sectors in Emergency Credit Guarantee Limit Scheme (ECLGS 2.0) in order to seek financial support from lending institutions.

The water sector in India is under severe financial stress due to the Covid -19 pandemic with various drinking water and sanitation projects suffering immensely on account of restrictions imposed on activities, lack of manpower, credit crunch and shortage of raw material. With no financial support in the face of cautious lending by financial institutions, a failure to define the water and waste water projects under any of the pre-defined sub-sectors of Infrastructure or Construction in the ECLGS will spell doom for the viability of projects which are battling enormous financial distress.

Commenting on the issue, Mr. Sourav Daspatnaik, Managing Trustee, Water Alliance India said: “It is a matter of great concern that Water, Waste Water and Sanitation sectors which have been at the forefront of the Covid-19 crisis are not considered in the eligible sectors. Just like power and electricity, Water, Waste Water management and Sanitation must be considered as an essential service and cannot be subservient to other sectors. The life line of water infrastructure development in India will tumble if such reliefs under the Government policies are not made available to Water, Waste water and Sanitation sector.”

The Government of India in response to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, announced an Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS). Under the Scheme, the Government undertook to guarantee additional facilities provided by lending institutions to their existing borrowers. The same was further revised as ECLGS 2.0 wherein the Government guaranteed additional lending to the 27 sectors including the 26 sectors defined by the committee headed by Shri KV Kamath and the Health sector. Later, Hospitality, Travel & Tourism, Leisure and Sporting sectors were included in the list of eligible sectors.

However, the water infrastructure players have not been able to avail this scheme in the absence of water sector being listed in the 26 sectors defined by the KV Kamath Committee. The loans under ECLGS can be sanctioned only up to 30.09.2021 and disbursed up to 31st of December 2021.

Mr. Ajay Popat, President, Ion Exchange said, “The Covid-19 pandemic and consequential lockdowns have impacted many drinking water and waste water management projects of the Central and the State Governments. Many participants in the water sector are MSMEs. The very idea of introducing Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) was to help those sectors which have been impacted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is unfortunate that drinking water and waste water management sectors have not been considered to avail the benefits of ECLGS and as a result multiple projects and MSMEs involved in the sector have been affected financially, apart from being crippled with lack of manpower, severe hike in raw materials like steel, cement, electrical etc. Since most of these contracts have fixed prices, the cascading effect of all have resulted in acute credit crunch and financial distress. Thus, it is high time that the appropriate authorities revisit the list of beneficiaries of ECLGS and include drinking water and waste water management sectors into it or the viability of many MSME projects will be in question.”

Dr. Ajay Pradhan, President, Consulting Engineering Association of India (CEAI) said, “There has been a growing demand from the Water and Waste Water Sector infrastructure players to issue a proper clarification urgently in defining the Drinking Water and Waste Water projects as a separate sector or as sub-sectors under the Infrastructure or Construction sector to combat the financial distress. As the apex body for consulting and technical engineers in the country, we remain hopeful and confident that a clarification would be issued soon bringing this into effect thus, enabling the lending institutions to process additional funding for the run-down water infrastructure players”

Mr. Naresh Jain, President, Delhi Jal Board Contractors Welfare Association said, “The scope of ECLGS must be expanded to include drinking water and waste water management sector. This sector, like other MSMEs, needs urgent relaxations and immediate support to survive. In the absence of the ECLGS being extended to the water sector, many companies may be compelled to shut their operations which will not only cause great inconvenience to the public at large but will also result in having a ripple effect on its workforce who will be left jobless during these testing times. Thus, drinking water and waste water management sector must be added to the list of sectors identified by the KV Kamath Committee, failing which will only add to the already mounting hardships for MSMEs engaged in this sector.”

Mr. Shantanu Mitra, CFO, Nangloi Water Services Private Limited also commented, “Capital construction work is a significant part of several drinking water and waste water management projects. Since the construction sector has already been identified in the list of 26 sectors by the KV Kamath Committee, thus, it is imperative that the drinking water and waste water sectors should be considered as a part of the construction sector and subsequently be included in the list.”
